Nanny paperwork,properly sorted.

For families employing a nanny in England and Wales — and nannies who want the paperwork right.

A nanny working in your home is normally your employee, so you must give them a written statement of their main terms from their first day, run payroll through PAYE and pay at least the National Minimum Wage. This pack gives you a nanny employment agreement that covers those terms, plus the forms most families need next.

Questions, answered.

Is a nanny employed or self-employed?

A nanny who works for one family, in the family's home and to the family's routines, is normally an employee. That makes the parent the employer, responsible for PAYE, employer National Insurance and a workplace pension where the nanny is eligible.

Do I have to give my nanny a written contract?

You must give a written statement of the main terms of employment — pay, hours, holiday, notice and the rest — from the first day of work. The Nanny Employment Agreement in this pack is written to work as that statement.

How much holiday does a nanny get?

At least 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year, which can include bank holidays, pro rata for part-time hours. Use our free holiday entitlement calculator to work out the figure.

Does the pack cover a nanny share?

Yes, in the Pro pack. The Nanny Share Agreement sets out how two families split hours, costs and holiday, and what happens if one family leaves.

Can I edit the documents?

Yes. Fill them in online, save as PDF, or download Word files with the Pro pack. Read each one through and adjust it to your arrangement.
