Walks, keys and vets,all agreed.

For dog walkers, pet sitters and home-visit carers working with owners in the UK.

A dog walking agreement should cover walk times and fees, off-lead permission, how many dogs you walk together, the owner's duty to disclose behaviour, collar and ID tags, vet treatment consent and what happens to keys. This pack gives you those documents ready to fill in.

Questions, answered.

Do I need a contract to walk dogs?

There is no law requiring one, but a written agreement settles fees, cancellations, off-lead permission and what happens in an emergency before anything goes wrong.

Does a dog need a collar and tag on walks?

In a public place a dog must wear a collar with the owner's name and address on it or on a tag (Control of Dogs Order 1992). Dogs in England must also be microchipped. The agreement asks the owner to confirm both.

How many dogs can I walk at once?

Some councils set a limit in a Public Spaces Protection Order. The agreement has a field for your maximum and a reminder to check your council's rules.

Do I need a licence to look after pets?

Boarding animals in your own home for a fee in England needs a council licence. Visiting pets in their owner's home, which the Pet Sitting Agreement covers, is different — check with your council if you are unsure.

What happens if a dog is hurt?

The Pet Information and Vet Treatment Consent form records the vet and a spending limit for emergency treatment, and the Pro pack adds an incident and injury report form.
